Welcome to the May edition
In this month’s edition, we share some articles to help you tackle the high energy costs. This includes outlining some sources where you can get financial assistance as well as giving you tips on how you can save energy around your home.
We also give you a brief history of the credit union movement.
As part of our ‘Did you know?’ series, we focus on ‘Spelthorne’, one of the areas of our common bond.
Since it’s World Environment Day on 05 June 2022, we thought we would share a report published by the IPCC that set out some interesting news about the outlook for people, nature and the planet.
Finally, we highlight our transport loan which can help you get a used car, bicycle, motorcycle or travel cards.
With kind regards,
Thamesbank editorial team
A brief history of the credit union movement
When did the credit union movement begin? Which was the first credit union? What was Thamesbank Credit Union’s original name?
Get all the answers to the above questions and more from our website.
How well do you know Spelthorne?
Spelthorne is one of the areas that we serve as Thamesbank Credit Union.
Did you know that water is an important feature of Spelthorne? The River Thames flows through the borough and there are five major reservoirs. The reservoirs together supply about a third of London’s water – about 850 million litres per day. They are also used for other things though – you can go sailing, SUPing or canoeing on Queen Mary Reservoir, bird watching at Staines and see a flock of sheep on the banks of Wraysbury Reservoir.
This is one of the interesting facts about the borough. Learn more about Spelthorne from our website.
Energy costs – sources of financial assistance and advice
Are you struggling with paying your energy bills? We have put together a list of sources that can help you financially and give you advice on how you can manage your debts.
Living with uncertainty
Whilst headlines in the UK and across Europe has been dominated by the war in Ukraine, there are other conflicts across the world that show little sign of ending.
As it’s World Environment Day on 05 June 2022, we thought we would share a report published by the IPCC that set out some interesting news about the outlook for people, nature and the planet.
You can read the synopsis of this report on our website.

Transport Loan
Transport is important to get from one place to another and can get expensive. For example, you might need your car for the school run, to get to work or even just for visiting family and friends. When that goes wrong it can turn into a big, unexpected cost, that’s where our Transport Loan comes in. Get your car back on the road, or maybe it’s time for a new one altogether.
With our transport loan, you can borrow a loan of up to £5,000 that is repayable over up to five years (60 months), where the interest rates will be commensurate with the size of the loan.
The loan will be applicable to any of the following means of transport:
- Powered Scooters
- Mobility Scooters
- Powered or Manual Bikes
- Motorcycles
- Used cars
- Travel cards
As Thamesbank, we are here to support you with no set-up fee, or early repayment charges. Simply complete our online form.
