A recent study that was conducted by Evans and McAteer (2019) has shown that employees value payroll saving facilities highly and many staff admit that they just did not have the discipline to set up standing orders from their bank to enable saving.

Employees claim these schemes enable a buffer against unforeseen financial challenges like car repairs; broken washing machines and replacement school uniform.

Employers were pleased that the staff stayed on task and were not distracted by financial buffeting.
