Thursday 17th October marks the 76th annual International Credit Union (ICU) Day, under the theme: One World Through Cooperative Finance. The annual event reflects upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognise hard work, and share member experiences.
“At Thamesbank Credit Union, we take pride in being a part of a movement that puts people before profit. Today, we reflect on how our commitment to financial education, fair lending, and community support continues to make a lasting impact on our members’ financial well-being, empowering them to build brighter futures.” – Mukesh Malhotra, Chair of Thamesbank Credit Union.
“Happy International Credit Union Day to our members and to credit union colleagues and family all across the world,“ says ABCUL CEO, Robert Kelly. “Credit unions are the lifeblood of communities building financial resilience every day.
“Since the first celebration in 1948, ICU Day is a chance to spotlight and celebrate these achievements. It gives our movement an opportunity to showcase to the world the impact credit unions make in their local community.”
Great Britain’s total members increased to their highest point at 1,547,619 members. This is a 5.7% increase from the prior year, with around a ten thousand increase in membership in a single quarter.
With a 19% growth from the previous year, the total savings across GB now is valued at £2.34 billion, surpassing the last quarter as the largest shares ever held by British Credit Unions. £The value total shares demonstrate the financial resilience of credit unions and their ability to have a strong position in the midst of the cost-of-living crisis,” Robert Kelly added.
